That Apple CD driver shouldn't be a problem. You might want to make sure your disk drivers are up to date though. The latest Apple Drive Setup is often recommended on this list, providing it supports the hard drive(s) you're using. If the problem started after the fresh System install, then something is amiss with the installation. What System version are you running? You might want to reinstall the System using the 'clean install' option, keeping in mind that you'll need to back up any 3rd party prefs/inits and replace them afterward. It's a lot of work, but it helps get rid of any gremlins that linger. Does that file saving Finder crash only occur in Illustrator and Photoshop, or is it happening when saving in other apps too? There's so many things to consider Richard, even a bad RAM module can cause similar problems. If you can download 'Gauge Pro' it wouldn't hurt to run the memory test part of Gauge Pro for an hour ot two to rule out a RAM problem.
