Sitting aside my trusty S900 is a Beige G3/266, IDE bus, IDE drive, etc.
In the other room is a dead Gateway, belonging to my wife. Just went south, without warning. Looks like a virtual memory problem, or the registry, but who knows? Gateway can't figure it out, so I'm relatively stuck. There is data that needs to be saved, and this is the help I need. I need to move her HD to the Beige G3, hook it up as a slave and try to get the Mac to recognize it as a PC disk. Then I can presumably pull off her files, burn a backup on the Mac, then trash the PC drive. 1. Am I going to have trouble with jumpers? It's a Western Digital 20GB, running at 7200 RPM. The internal drive on the Beige is a 6GB unit, probably going at 5400 RPM. I'm sure these things are not instantly compatible. Ideas??? 2. How do I configure the PC drive as a slave on the Mac? No experience in this area. 3. Is there anything else I need to do, besides pray? Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
