Jerry, One more important thing... early Apple G3's had either a revision 1, or a revision 2 motherboard. The former did not allow for a slave on the IDE bus.
Apparently the System CD that came with revision 2 machines was blue. White was the color for the revision 1 models system CD. So says lowendmac.com.
