Sorry for pointing this out but this is wrong info. The batteries for
the C500 and S900 aren't even close to being the same.
The best thing will be to take your old battery out and match it up at
Radio shack. It's good you know how to take your C500 apart! You will
find the battery under the hard drive. There are only 1 or 2 screws to
remove then the hard drive will slide out. The battery is nearly always
a Rayovac and is a square box with 2 wire leads with a plug on the end.
It is fairly large over an inch square. It is a 4.5 volt battery. You
can't miss it once you see it. The C500 manual doesn't list the battery
and I'm not going to take the c500 apart sorry.
The S900 uses what is called a 1/2 size AA battery 3.6 volt ( it looks
like a short AA battery) The short version of taking apart the S900 is
on the left side back you will find a thumb screw on the middle edge
unscrew this and the left side panel slides back. This isn't easy to do
the first time or two until you get the hang of it. You also need to
push in on both top and bottom back edges while sliding back. You will
see a place for your two thumbs and both edges. It maybe easier to lay
machine on side to do this. You will find the battery in a small box
like thing on the motherboard near the front close to the cpu slot. It
has a black cover which you remove by squeezing the ends toward the
middle and lifting off. The battery is most often purple but could be
another color if it's been replaced with another brand.
You are right the date issue has nothing to do with the power supply
and is a battery issue. Oh ya while Radio shack is often a good place
to buy these batteries it seems there is local pricing. Members here
reported prices at Radio shack varying from $9.95(a reasonable price
for these) to an out rageous $25.00. Local PC shops would be worth
checking if Radio shack is too expensive in your area but be sure to
have the old battery with you in either case. A PC shop won't have any
Mac battery info though may well have the batteries. The S900 battery
is fairly common but not the C500 battery. I hope this helps Will S
