I've yet to see a Radio Shack that has the battery for the C500/C600 
in stock. If you're going to mail order anyway, you can probably do 
better in terms of price; here's a pointer to a site that has the 
4.5V alkaline battery you need for about $10.

Also, here's a couple pictures of an open C500 that might help you 
figure out how to get to the original battery. (I have a C600, thank 
goodness -- it's a bit easier.)

A final site that might help, trusty Low End Mac has a guide for 
installing a CacheDoubler card. You're not doing this, but you could 
follow its directions until you've exposed the battery, since it 
provides instructions for getting all the way down to the motherboard.
