Looking at your .edu email address, is your Mac on a school network? With an always-on internet connection like that, it's pretty easy to set your computer to set the date and time automatically at startup. I know it's built in to the Date and Time control panel in OS 9, and I think it's there in 8.5 and 8.6. For earlier operating systems you can download third party software to do it. And it's nice to know your clock is synced to Official Apple Time. (Unless your clocks at school/work are considerably off.) > Besides the inconvenience, are there any problems or am I causing damage by > not having a working battery in my computer for so long? Well, it might cause your files to have strange created/modified dates attached to them, which could be inconvenient if you were looking for a file you created on such and such a day. Also, I don't know about the C500, but a lot of Macs store more than just the date and time using the battery, mouse tracking speed, and AppleTalk settings are two that come to mind, there may be more. I can't think of any BAD problems a dead battery would cause though. -John -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
