Yes, I am really happy with my upgraded J700 machine(S900 laying on
it's side more or less ;-)
It's been upgraded and running fine for apox 2.5 years. I got an XLR8
Carrier card and had a 300mhz Zif which ran overclocked at 350mhz for a
year or so. I have now had a OWC 500mhz zif overclocked to 550mhz for
apox 1.5 years. The only real problems were every increase in mhz seems
to stress old ram and I've had to remove several flacky ram chips and
replace with new ones. Chips that ran fine at 350mhz were no longer
usable at 550mhz random crashes, freezes and sometimes refusing to
boot. All was fixed after testing ram and removing older 70ns speed ram.
If you are still using a SCSI drive hooked to the on motherboard SCSI
plug you would get a big speed bump by replacing with an ATA PCI card
and IDE drive. This in many ways was a bigger speed bump then the
350mhz G3 upgrade to my surprise. i've also been running OSX in it's
many forms for 2.5 years and it keeps getting better. I've been running
it as my main OS since Jaguar came out. The L2 cache not being
upgradeable is only an issue with the 604 cpu. Most cache software for
use with G3/4 upgrades disables the motherboard cache as it should be
with G3/4 upgrades. Will S
