After trashing your corrupted Apple Menu prefs, and getting your Apple Menu set up the way you like it again, make a compressed copy of those prefs with Stuffit, and leave it sitting right there in your preferences folder beside the unstuffed Apple Menu pref. The next time corruption occurs, simply toss the corrupted pref file, unstuff the archived pref file, and away you go. I don't know why the corruption is occurring, but at least you can escape the hassle of setting up your Apple Menu each time. As to the 10 second delay... If it's occurring right at startup when the desktop first appears there's a fix. Inside the System Folder is a folder named "Servers", and trashing the contents of that folder will cure the 10 second freeze at startup. If it's occurring any old time at all, it could be anything from a dying hard drive, to background indexing of your drive(s).
