Hi;
I am running 9.1 on my S900.

In my Apple Menu Folder and CP folder I have whatever the OS
installed. Any thing I add is always an Alias. Aliases cannot
interact with each other.

I wonder how far this could be carried. How about Extensions??

Same with the Desktop. Except for the Drive Icons and Control Strip
any thing on the Desktop is an Alias. Also all folders that get
changed occasionally are on a different HD accessed with Aliases.
Actually, visible on the desktop is the alias to a folder on the
backup drive. This folder contains mostly aliases to other folders
that contain " On going Docs". This way the Desktop Folder on the
Boot drive never sees changes. There are also an alias to the printer
and an alias to a JPEG map of current interest. Why this helps, I
have no Idea, but it seems to improve things.

Prior to arranging things this way, I had problems with TTP messing
with preferences. Now no Problems.

I have found that with my boot drive a 2gig scsi more than half
full, the drive is more sensitive to fragmentation so I run TTP3.08
more often.

I can just check email, low volume maybe 20 or 30 messages coming in
during six mail checks with Eudora 5.2 and Eudora or Mozilla 1.2.1
will freeze. Then I run TTP again to clean up the Volumes and System
Files.
That little amount of activity can produce 300 or 400 free space
fragments and 50 to 100 fragmented files. If I go a week I get 1500
free space fragment and 400 fragmented files. Plus bombs repeatedly.

Eudora and Mozilla are the only sensitive Apps. Even WriteNow v4.0
(yes it's left over from my MacPlus days, only upgraded to the max)
never bombs.
When the cash is available, maybe in April, I will get an 80 Gig ATA
HD plus ATA card from OWC and a G3 upgrade. That might loosen things
up a bit.
For what its worth,
Ernie
