Just to say thanks and let you know I've fixed it. Nancy helped me get on the right track, It wasn't the pram battery, but once I took that out I had partial success.
So just before I took out the motherboard and went looking for a dry joint I unplugged and re-seated all the motherboard connectors.
Hey Presto its all up and running. Just goes to show always start with the simple things before you try cards and drives in other machines.
On a separate thread, I'm running 8.1 on the Umax and have been considering moving to 8.6 or 9.2.2
Any tips or recommendations much appreciated.
Thanks
John
