A friend's S900 won't boot, no startup chime, and obviously no video either. Pressing the cuda doesn't help. Here's what I've tried thus far... - pulled all the RAM - reseated the processor (604/223 mhz) - tried a different video card (grasping at straws I know) - much cuda pushing
The drive spins up just fine, the CD drive seems functional, so it can't be a power supply issue. It's not bad RAM. So I'm leaning toward logicboard problems. He has only one hard drive in it, and one video card in the upper slot. There were symptoms leading up to this failure... It wouldn't wake from sleep, and had to be force restarted. Even then the video wouldn't come back and a PRAM zap was required. Finally, nothing would work, and no startup chime was final result. I can't remember... Can a dead PRAM battery cause similar symptoms on some machines? Anything else I should try before making funeral arrangements?
