Oh but Promise does make Mac IDE cards in a way. They supplied
the firmware for the VST card which was one of the first Mac IDE
cards. OWC hired Promise to write new firmware for the VST card
so it will run OSX (and also to help them sell the mountain of left
over cards they had stock piled ;-) Promise also makes the firmware
for the Sonnet ATA 100 & 133 IDE cards. I don't know who
manufactures these cards it may well be Promise. Acard is the only
other company making Mac IDE cards. As far as I've been able to
 tell.

Actually, Promise manufactured the cards, but FirmTek wrote the firmware. There's an info window in the firmware updating utility which gives their names. The "George" fellow seems nice. The other person is in denial about firmware bugs and also appears to be the owner.
