"I successfully upgraded my J700 to a 32MB Radeon for Mac. I took out my
twin turbo card and I wanted to install it in a beige G3 that I have in
my classroom. I installed it and I loaded my Twin Turbo software from
the UMAX install disk. I am getting a bomb on startup. It says "Sorry,
a system error has occured. Bus error. To temporarily turn off
extensions, restart and hold down the shift key."
The odd thing is that I can see all of the extension icons load. All of the icons of the extensions that are turned on show up. Virex is the last icon and it shows up. When I turn off Virex, the one right before Virex shows up. So I think it is getting through all of the extensions.
I can see jumpers on the Twin Turbo. Do I have to reset the jumpers? If so, does anyone know the proper jumper settings?
Any other suggestions?"
I'm wondering if I'm experiencing a related problem. I have had nothing but fits trying to upgrade my J-700 with a Sonnet G3 400 card. I had it up and going temporarily, but it crashed before I had a chance to install it as our regular machine. It's never worked properly since. I got so frustrated that when a friend dropped off a Power Computing PowerTower Pro, I decided to switch all the RAM and PCI cards over because the motherboard appeared to be the same. Sadly, I have experienced the same problems with the Power Computing model as the J-700. It begins to load and then locks up, generally with some sort of Type 10 or bus error. I'm wondering if the problem could be Twin Turbo card related. After a while, I decided that the problem might be the Sonnet upgrade card, so I bought a brand-new G3 500 version, but the results are the same. These computers work fine (but very slow), with the original processors installed. Input anyone? I'm borderline desperate with frustration. I appreciate your help in advance.
