Hi Paul,
Thank you for the easy to understand description, I will do this. The present situation with the unit is that it would not run with G3 software, I removed it and the card runs. It sees the card in the system profiler and is running faster. I am thinking though that it is part of what you said about the hardware not be identified and maybe partly a software issue. I am wondering if the original software that would have come with the card might have included a system extension or something that is not letting my machine even open the loaded G3 software. When I clicked on it in the Control Panel I would get a error box come up and tell me "this software can not run on this machine".

Thank you to everyone who helped, it can be very frustrating when you try everything you can think of and still not get the desired results. That is why this Supermac list and its people are so appreciated, definitely by me!
Diane :)

Now we are getting somewhere! ( knowing the card runs with no software!) The Newertech software is so old at this point I was thinking it could be the problem when using newer Mac OS. There are several softwares to try. powerlogix is perhaps the only one who currently offers free software. Go to Powerlogix.com and under support go to downloads and get a copy of "CPU Director" I am pretty sure it runs in OS 9.1 and they no longer offer the older software on the website. See how that does for you. Be sure to remove all traces of the newertech software. If that doesn't work i can find a copy of the last free version of XLR8 software. I'm still using it with my OS 9.2.2 install as had issues with the later versions. best of luck Will S
