John,

For many months, I thought something was wrong with my
aging monitor when it would not appear immediately on
cold startups and would only appear after I rebooted
the machine. After a while, I found out that if left
alone for a few minutes, I would boot up fine. I
thought the problem could be solved by turning off the
memory check on bootups, but since I had already
unchecked the box (as I always do), it's just now part
of the normal routine on my 7-year old S900 Supermac. 

Perhaps it just needs some time. not more than 5
minutes though. mine boots up and the video comes on
within 2-3 minutes.

here are the specs:
S900, 400mhz
ATI7000, with two monitors connected.

BTW, i'm still doing top-notch graphic design on a
very old system. what a great machine these S900s are!

Oh yes, if you have lots of memory, try turning off
the memory check.
