Plug and play sounds great... I'll have to take a close look at them at my next opportunity.

I've been watching the LCD scene for the last 6 months or so, both on laptops as well as for the newer desktop units.
My conclusion thus far is dispite the vast selection, including Apple's, CRT is far more cost effective for those who need a certain degree of accuracy and consistancy.
As a stopgap measure to replace the SONY PS400 (19") that was showing its age after six years, I ended up ordering a refurbished 19" LaCie Electron Blue CRT from LaCie's website.
The plan is to follow up with the 22" model and the BlueEye calibrator, but I'm also looking at Sony's Artisan, their top-of-the-line model and I think the only CRT (computer) monitor officially available with the SONY label.

There are enough folks out there who rave about their LCD screens, and many are using color calibrators and reporting good results.
But LCD screens, I think, will start dimming gradually from Day-1, and there are PowerBook and i-Book folks who are tinkering with replacing the illuminator bulbs instead of the expensive wholesale swapping of the screen.

Just make sure to pay attention to the LCD monitor connectors if you don't want to buy a DVI to VGA transition, if there is such a thing.
And also look into the practicality of operating a LCD in analog mode, which I haven't looked into with enough detail.

Our two new Apples have DVI, and ironically are running VGA CRT monitors using the adapters that came with the computers.
