Alan, can you tell me more. Mine is a Sony 19" Trinitron (in a KDS housing)

and it appears the 400ps is also a Trinitron. Even though your symptom
wasn't identical, there's a chance that the manufacturing error was the
same. By chance do you still have the repair order which might show
specifically what was repaired?

If mine goes black again I'll probably end up having to open it up to see if
I can find any loose connections. Of course I'll discharge it first so I
don't get fried.

Mine went green after the red gun went south.
There was no repair order and I was happy to get it back in working order free of charge except for the cost to ship it to Sony facility in North Carolina.
Although I am capable of soldering, etc., it wasn't worth my time messing with it.
As for defects, I can't rule out shipping abuse.
The monitor was purchased at the same time as the s900 back in '98 and was delivered by AirBorne.
It's possible something could have jarred loose enough to lead to a delayed reaction couple years later.

With Sony CRT monitors no longer available new except for the Artisan, anything with a Mitsubishi tube might be a consideration.
Check out LaCie's refurbished section where you can pick up a 19" ElectronBlue IV for $199.
That's what I did after semi-retiring the 400PS with the s900.

I'm glad I picked up a 17" Mistsubishi from Best Buy several years ago for my boys - it cost only $170 and the image quality is excellent.

No more Sonys, no more Mitsubishis, maybe some Viewsonics in retail stores these days.
