Then I made the all too famous move when all else fails. I gave it a slap.
Ha! Got the picture back. Wild. I guess only time will tell once again if
it will keep working, but just maybe this means I simply have a loose
connection inside.

So Dan, make sure to try giving it a gentle but firm slap, it just might
work. Now I don't condone violence but mine responded to a hit on the left
side. If it makes you feel better, you can say your sorry afterwards.
-------

Although mine never went blank, I experienced this with two monitors - one a Apple 15"
Multi-Sync that was repaired under a Apple recall that was extended and a Sony 400PS 19",
which was also repaired under warranty (after it had expired several weeks) by Sony.

In both cases, a soldering point went loose in one of the color guns (sorry about the
layman's term) and the blame went to a combination of manufacturing defect, heat and
maybe rough handling during shipping that may have triggered the event.
(I believe the Apple was bad manufacturing design that was vulnerable to heat.)

I decided it wasn't worth the trouble/risk attempting a repair on my own, costing
around $70 to ship the Sony. The Apple I lucked out by just dropping it off at a shop.
