You or her choices don't make 1.x or Win98 any more secure, both (Win98 even
more than SM 1.x, by the way) have a list of vulnerabilities that can be used

They'd probably be happy if you gifted them a more recent PC. What you
call "choices" maybe are not if they can't afford one.
BTW, I doubt recipes website are a probable origin of computer hijacking
or probable victim of website hijacking.
