Ok, I just disabled it. Now what happens?
Currently the 3 attributed posters above all have disabled f=f posting.
In that configuration, SM does not stamp f=f in the header, does not put
trailing spaces in the original posted material and also strips the
existing trailing spaces from cited material. That behavior is the same
as Tb behavior with f=f posting disabled. That discussion is not useful
for helping with the issue of f=f enabled for SM vs Tb.
In the default SM and Tb configurations, f=f posting /is/ enabled.
Regardless of the information about gecko engines, SM with f=f enabled
strips the trailing spaces of cited material and the current Tb and
previous Tb2 do not. There was a Tb3 which also behaved like that.
Those who want to inspect the SM behavior can do so best by examining
numerous posts in this newsgroup, which has a lot of SM posters and for
viewing the effect use the ctrl-U function to examine the message source
to see the trailing spaces.
When you are looking at message source, you can use your cursor to
determine which lines have trailing spaces at the EOLs within a par.
You can then see that SM in f=f enabled mode will post with trailing
spaces, but will strip the existing trailing spaces from quoted material.
The EOLs for the last line in a par do not have a trailing space; just
the within-par EOLs
