In so doing, my personal profile in XP was corrupted. It will only start
and function in default profile. The store geek said that I do not need
my personal profile, and that the default one works fine. My cruising
the net suggests otherwise, but was not clear.
He's wrong. Unless he was talking about the Windows user account.
Is it important that I get my personal profile corrected, or is it OK to
just work with a default profile?
Any advice will be appreciated.

The profiles are stored in different places on XP and W7. Hence, some
paths specified in user.js are different. So, you can't just copy the
old profile to the new machine, you also have to edit prefs.js to
correct the paths.
And the directions to do that can be found where?
When I had an XP system I would periodically copy my entire Mozilla
profile from my main W7 system to sync them up. They both had the same
profile name. I achieved that by editing the profiles.ini file. Here's
what I did:
1. Copy entire profile to the XP machine
2. Open the prefs.js file on the XP machine in a plain-text editor
(Windows notepad is fine)
3. Do a find and replace for all instances of
Documents and Settings\\\\Ed Mullen\\\\Application
Data\\\\Mozilla\\\\SeaMonkey\\\\Profiles\\\\
with
Users\\\\Ed
Mullen\\\\AppData\\\\Roaming\\\\Mozilla\\\\SeaMonkey\\\\Profiles\\\\
4. Do a find and replace for all instances of
Documents and Settings\\\\Ed Mullen\\\\Application
Data\\\\Mozilla\\\\SeaMonkey\\\\Profiles\\\\
with
Users\\Ed Mullen\\AppData\\Roaming\\Mozilla\\SeaMonkey\\Profiles\\
5. Save file
Replace "Ed Mullen" with your Windows user account name.
