I want to access my printer on the server/desktop pc with my client
notebook pc when connected to it with the PC DOS INTERLNK program.

I've just thanked you for your suggestion, explained my reason for not
wanting to use a parallel port connection, "joked" about my frustration a
little (put in a few "Gs", which are the same as :-) ) -- and you feel I'm
easily annoyed, can't cope with change, am unwilling to make some
compromises and think life should be easy? Who's flaming who?

That's one option. But I suspect the problem is a hardware problem, not a
fault with IBM's software, nor a problem with my serial cable setup. So
before checking with IBM, I prefer the help of those better experienced with
the oddities of old and/or peculiar situations involving older hardware,
such as here.
My easiest option, since I really don't have a great deal of file transfers
to make, is to use PC DOS's File Update Utility and a few floppy disks.

Of course your are -- you were the first one to respond to my inquiry. But
I was not being uncivil, and as you can see, I'm acknowledging other
people's suggestions and ideas on the list.
