Thanks for your reply, Boanne, but we still appear to be talking
about two different switches. The switch you are referring to
is on the outside of the case and does indeed lock the battery
into place. However, the switch I am concerned about is on the
underside of the battery itself. It is totally invisible (and
inaccessible) when the battery is in the laptop. It is located
just below the negative terminal. When the switch is slid upwards,
the tab is cream-colored (just like the case). When the switch is
slid downwards, the tab is bright red.
I'm sure this little switch has some purpose on the battery and
I don't want to play around with the battery until I know what
I'm supposed to be doing. BTW the battery model number is
PA7491U (DC 7.2V - 2200mAh). It's about 11x8x3 centimeters.
