Hi Steven,
}- Thanks for your reply, Boanne, but we still appear to be
}- talking about two different switches. The switch you are
}- referring to is on the outside of the case and does indeed
}- lock the battery into place. However, the switch I am
}- concerned about is on the underside of the battery itself.
Yes, I had misunderstood you then. Hmmmmmm... The fact that the
switch you are referring to is on the *underside* of the battery
seems odd to me.
}- It is totally invisible (and inaccessible) when the battery is
}- in the laptop. It is located just below the negative
}- terminal. When the switch is slid upwards, the tab is
}- cream-colored (just like the case). When the switch is slid
}- downwards, the tab is bright red.
}- I'm sure this little switch has some purpose on the battery
}- and I don't want to play around with the battery until I know
}- what I'm supposed to be doing. BTW the battery model number
}- is PA7491U (DC 7.2V - 2200mAh). It's about 11x8x3 centimeters.
Yes, I'm sure you're correct that it does have a purpose, and I'd
be willing to bet that it has something to do with charging the
battery.
Off the top of my head, and these are only guesses, the only
other 2 things I can think of are:
1. This might be a switch that lets you disconnect the battery
without actually taking it out of the machine.
Or
2. Perhaps it has something to do with an external charger. As
you probably know, you can usually buy more than one battery for
a laptop and put one in an external charger and one in the
machine and then when it runs down simply swap the charged
battery for the run down one in the external charger.
I will do some research and see what I can find out and get back
to you.
Boanne
