Probably most vulnerable part of any notebook. I know, I've broken
three notebooks now. <g>

BH>So you got the case off and had a look? Compaq use those funny hex
BH>screws everywhere; good thing I have a few of those drivers. A
BH>flathead screwdriver was used before I found my real toolkit. :)

This one I didn't really notice if they were supposed to be hex screws,
since I kept using my flathead jeweler's screwdriver, which kept
working. Anyway, I managed to open it up again, did a bit of what I'd
wanted to do, it worked for a while, then I got "overenthusiastic," and
now it's not working at all. Might still be fixable. Gave up for the
moment, though.

BH>Yeah. But this machine was bought by the university for its staff
BH>several years ago, so there aren't that many extras.

BH>(The only extras was MS Word (Which I deleted) and a null-modem cable
BH>(which has found many good uses).

Dittoes on the null-modem cable. Must be a Standard Compaq Notebook
thing, everybody gets one? By the way, since I (probably) permanently
broke my Compaq, I might consider parting with the docking station.

Lemme try fixing it again, and then breaking it again. <g>

BH>I was just wondering. I knew you used a BBS and I thought it might
BH>have that. But 15 characters is IMO too short.
BH>And there's no need to apologise!

Well, maybe there is, since it's my own BBS, & oughta know better.
<grin>
