] No, you can't connect to the provider using Opera.
This is a common misconception: You use the browser to use the
internet. Most people dont realise theres something going on other
than the browser.

Isn't there an install program? I would probably recommend getting
Trumpet Winsock 3, because I had lots of problems (couldn't connect
at all) with v2.

] There's no need to add the path. That just slows down things.
The trumpet directory does have to be in the path (according to its
help; I never tried without it), so it can find the winsock.dll file
properly.

]
] You are doing it the wrong way. This will NOT work.
]
] How to do it in Windows 3.x:
]
] 1. Start Trumpet WinSock
] 2. Dialer|Login (ALT-D and then Enter)
] 3. Wait until it's finished (mine says "My IP address = x.x.x.x")
] 4. Start other programs (Opera, Netscape, CuteFTP, mIRC - but AFTER you
] have been logged in (otherwise you'll need to logout and close down Windows
] and start again and do everything once more in the correct order)).
I *always* loaded mIRC before dialling with Trumpet. (ie load
Trumpet; alt tab to start mIRC; alt tab to Alt-D enter; alt tab to
mIRC when connected and click on the Connect to IRC server button) I
got into this habbit since my first ISP would kick me off if I didn't
send out anything within a few seconds of connecting. More than once
this had happened: Loading Netscape 3 took almost a minute and I got
disconnected (On the old 386).

] >bigger window appears, which says "! Network Problem."
Try Trumpet Winsock 3. It should work.
] Perhaps something under "Trace" can help you?
]
] >I don't know what to do--or if there's anything I can do.
There's several (stupid if you ask me) places to put your info. In
the Dial menu, and the File menu are places needed to be filled in.
] Trumpet WinSock is IMHO the easiest program by all to set up - it took me
] less then 5 minutes 5 years ago (not knowing one thing about the InterNet)
] - others as ex. Win95 takes an hour atleast (I even had a friend over so he
] could see for himself how hard it was when he didn't believe me and that
] was the time he got as well).
Arachne was even easier/faster: took only DNS, phone number, username
and password to work. (A little more fiddling to get it to my liking,
but I can do it really fast now :)
] If they support Netscape then they *must* support Trumpet and can give you
] help.
They might only support the W95, which has everything built in.
] >When I use IE I get the same dialing messages as with Trumpet,

] >Opera/Trumpet be doing the same thing? I don't know.
Are you sure TRUMPET is dialling with IE? It could be ShivaPPP (aka
IEDIAL). This dialler is designed for IE, and uses common library
files.
] What IE does and doesn't isn't something I know (Ok, it doesn't work as a
] browser is supposed to - that I know but that's also all I do know). Sorry
] can't help you.
PS: I found Opera 3.51 to have many bugs, but 3.60 has fixed most of
them. 3.60 crashes on many sites with a "Application Error":
"floating point error: Stack under" I am running on a 486SX33 with
4MB RAM, with Trumpet Winsock 3.04. It happens whether I multitask
mIRC or not. Running MS-DOS 6.22 and WfWg 3.11, 8MB virtual perm RAM.
FWIW, the 33.6 modem is connecting (CARRIER) at 33600 and (CONNECT)
at 57600, to a V90 ISP.
Anyone have ideas on this one? (I turned Turbo Mode off, no
difference on the crashing but a little lighter on the RAM. I also
tried various settings, seeing if they we causing the crash)
Also, RAMgate seems to help minor problems, but I suspect these
problems (from 3.21) have gone now.
