I just thought of something - doesn't IE uses some SET variables? Perhaps
you should make sure these are not SET.

Hmmm... Are you sure the DNS is correct?
You could also try some other program, perhaps Opera is the program that
doesn't work as it should? Try ex. CuteFTP (http://www.cuteftp.com/) and
try and login to some FTP site. Also is your mailer working?
