I have a lexmark 2050 printer. I have it set up on a 486dx 66 w/20MB RAM
(my 586/133 only has a 33 mhz bus) and set to print share according to the
convoluted instructions from lexmark. Trouble is that it crashes
constantly, in the middle of the printjob. The despooler goes down (that's
the name of it in the subject)
Lexmark's solution is to use it on another pc if it worked on another
pc. yes, it worked on the 586, but the whole point of setting up the
network was to have a print server so i could get on with things while the
printer printed! I tried reinstalling the printer, heck, I reinstalled the
whole damn computer! I even downgraded to w95 from w98 and set things for
the minimum resource use. Gotta use windows for this printer, it won't
work in any other system.
Sometimes it prints, sometimes it doesn't. I was able to print a plain
ascii file, but the wpd formats, and the html stuff crashed. This might be
a resource issue but with only the explorer shell and the mouse driver
open, minimal display and only win95 I thought I'd freed up enough! I've
run win95 on a 486dx/25 with only 8 MB RAM, so a 66 with twenty should be
plenty!
suggestions? (other than switching the mo-bo around so I have a
586/133dx66, there's port issues there...)
