Ah, but (I think) you can use the Novell server that comes with
Open/DR/Lineo-DOS (why couldn't they stick with one name!) with Windows.
That's the way I've set it up (with 3.x however) here at home. Here are the
steps:

1. Install the network and drivers (on DOS level) between the machines
(this is also easier for you when you need to test if the network works).

2. set up the PC that's supposed to be the server as server (eg. run
"server" and "net admin" on it and configure correctly (printer sharing yes
- file sharing no)).

3. Install the (Windows) drivers for the printer on the PC that does NOT
have the printer locally (the client). You might however need to move the
printer to this machine temporarly for the installation. If so then move it
back afterwards to the server.

4. Add automatic login (ex. "echo password|net login user" or don't use
passwords only logins). Also make sure the printer is shared (server side)
and can be reached (from the client). The easiest way to do this is to map
it to lpt1 and copy a small test file to lpt1 on the client. See the docs
for more info about that.

5. Change from LPT1 to LPT1.DOS on the client.

And voila you can print from the client without any problems.

Of course all clients (if you add more) will also need to have the drivers
installed.
That's both a good thing and a bad - bad because you need to install them.
Good because noone can with this setup print on the wrong printer (assuming
you install more).

You could shut down explorer.exe and remove the mouse. That should "add" a
few resources. But the setup you have should be plenty for this.
You could of course reinstall everything on it - but you've already done this.

Perhaps you should make sure the printer works on the server first, or
perhaps you've already done this.
