Your machine *thinks* it can format to that specification. A common
warning is NOT to format lower density disks in a higher density drive.
Although sector size, sec/track, tracks and heads will be correct, the
HD will make format marks that are narrower than the DD drive can
reliably handle.

Format the disks on the laptop, THEN your machine will automatically
write the info in that format. The laptop will read the info put on by
your machine just fine. Dunno why it can read the info but not format-
it's just that way.
