}- Eh, do you really care how your washing machine works?

Yes, and I know how it works. My dryer too.

}- Bank ATM?

I have a general idea of how it works because I have knowledge of
computers. However I do not use banks - the whole idea of
paying someone else to use my own money is absolutely ridiculous
to me, so it's not likely to be an issue in my life.

}- Car's ignition?

Yes. And distributor (points and plugs). And solenoid. And
carburetor. And engine. And cooling system. And electrical
system: battery, alternator. Etc, etc. But more importantly
what I don't know, I know how to find out. This goes all the way
back to grammar school. I was very lucky to get excellent
teachers who taught me how to LEARN.

I talk to many, many people. Not only here in the SurvPC list,
but in person, you know, face-to-face. They tell me this, that's
how I know!

}- [I think a three year old in a car with peddles is OK myself.]

I seem to remember your mentioning that you should have corrected
your own spelling errors - in fact you devoted one whole, if
short message to it:

}- Do you work on your car? Do you tune it up?

Yes, sometimes. I change my own oil, do tune ups, and various
other things myself. I just recently helped my brother rebuild
the carburetor. Next time it needs to be rebuilt I will be able
to do it myself.

Rotate the tires?

No, I let my brother do that. But you can bet I know how to
change a tire and have done so several times.

I know, I know, you can't believe a woman can do these things....

ABSOLUTELY NOT! I *ADORE* my car and wouldn't dream of treating
it that way! (Hint: It contains NO computer components.)

Interesting. You know, in over ten years of owning a computer, I
have never had a virus. Nada. Zip. Zero. Zilch. There are 2
reasons for this: 1) I know my way around a virus scanner, and 2)
I don't play with computer games. And I've only known one person
who has, and that's my husband back in the heady days before the
Web when he had a BBS. It was the Jerusalem virus and it came in
a copy of Leisure Suit Larry. (Don't feel bad if you don't
understand.) It was caught in the nightly scan and did no
damage.

}- One thing I'd like to ask everyone to keep in mind as we

I never said that or anything remotely like it, and I don't
recall anyone else saying the virus writers are heroes. What I
and others did say is that the victims have brought it on
themselves and deserve it. For myself I stick by that.
