Now, I didn't mean any of that as an attack on you. My point was there are a
things some of us mortals don't know everything about. Perhaps not you, but
I've got a few gray areas that I can think of.

Maybe this will get my point across better: I know a pediatric neurosurgeon.
Every day, people come in whining and sniveling about problems. You'd think
with the wealth of information available about medicine today, they'd at
least bother to get up to speed on the latest treatments for something so
vital to the everyday existence of their child. But no! They whine, they
cry, they piss and moan. But -- strangely enough -- he doesn't hold them in
contempt, nor does he call them drooling idiots behind their backs. He holds
knowledge that they, too, could obtain with enough effort. He's certainly no
magician. Why can't they be bothered.

Though perhaps it's beneath him, he helps where he can, and attempts to
educate them on their options.

So ... hopefully un-necessary explanation follows ... my point is that there
are things many of us don't fully understand. That doesn't make us
"deserving" of misfortune, be it a tumor, a computer virus or a bad case of
the runs.

No, no no! I thought it was clever actually! Pedals in a car? Three year
old? Pedal-car! I thought for a sec that's what you meant. Just cute
imagery, not a spelling flame.

Uh, where did I ever say anything like that?

But this is my point: Your husband DID experience a virus -- using DOS,
right? But because of education and knowledge, he know how to deal with it
effectively. The fact that he used a potentially vulnerable OS didn't
suddenly turn him into a drooling idiot.

I am curious though: What exactly don't you think I understand about
computers, BBSen or Leisure Suit Larry? I did beat the damned thing as I
recall, though I can't remember what happened at the end. (Hey, we're on
SurvPC stuff!)

Sort of like someone wearing the wrong color in some parts of LA get gunned
down? Or the gal in a too-short skirt that gets assaulted? They shoulda
known better!

But that doesn't condone the crime, nor foster an attitude that it's OK,
does it?

Boanne - you're obviously convinced I'm an idiot. I didn't mean for this to
turn into a DOS against the world diatribe. I only want to emphasize my
honest belief that damage done to anyone's works, be they art, computer or
mechanical, harms us all.

The world needs more people who can work with different media. Watercolor,
oils and airbrush all have their place. If a bunch of folks get things done
using paint-by-numbers, I'm hardly going to laugh at them or deface their
works -- though I won't rush to see their stuff anytime soon..
