Karen - shame on you, you've been around soooo long on this list so you
should have swallowed lots of those "best editors" wars... Anyway:
*any* "pure" text mode (or "programmer's") editor would be useful for
your quest - and precisely not a file formatter like WP or the like.
So there's Qedit, Vedit, Xedit... (and another at least three dozen on
the SimTel list); personally I prefer/promote "stone-old" Blackbeard
and its advanced bother Captain bb (find them at my www place).
For HTML file *reading* it's HLIST (by Matin Goebbel) which is the most
most simple to use (find i at that www too, or at the link there to
Martin's URL); and indeed any editor would be appropriate to *edit*
HTML (but *not* a "word/text processor"!) as HTML is sheer text, and
sheer ASCII such.
