Hi Karen:
IMHO, the very best freeware text editor for DOS is PEDIT. Get your copy
at http://www.goldshell.com/pedit/pindex.htm
PEDIT has a pull-down menu interface remarkably similar to EDIT.COM, but
it provides many more features, and even a spell-checker. Because of
PEDIT's similarity to EDIT.COM, it might not like your screen-reader.
I could suggest also TINYEDIT.EXE and TE.EXE. I find TINYEDIT.EXE
especially easy to use, but it doesn't have many features. If you would like
for me to send you a copy, just ask. It is just 14,944 bytes, freeware.
EDLIN comes included with old DOS versions, beginning with version 2.2
I believe, and ending with version 4.0. Many people still have DOS version
3.30. It includes EDLIN. EDLIN is compatible with all higher DOS versions
too. You won't get the error message "incorrect DOS version". Personally
I don't like EDLIN. I think it has many drawbacks and is difficult to use.
Easy for you perhaps, but hard for me.
All the best,
Sam Heywood
