Yes, the PS/2 was an attempt by IBM to create their own "bus standard"
known as *Micro Channel" (or MCA). It wasn't as successful as the
ISA standard, however, and they eventually stopped making them. They
apparently returned to the ISA standard again (with PCs) when they
introduced the PS/1, PC/ValuePoint systems (in the early '90s), etc.,
although they claim their *real* reason for discontinuing MCA was the
superior PCI bus.
