Is this within the scope of this list yet? I have a very SurvPc type
problem with it at any rate!
The system works, it's been used to run windows with good success, but now
it's loaded with caldera2.5 openlinux
there is 64MB RAM and sound and video are onboard this AT board. The
266mhz processor is a cyrix media GX and the sound and video are also
called GX. I have the windows drivers and there is a fair bit of data for
a windows user, but not for this problem. The manual doesn't give settings
either.
install went smoothly and well (mostly), and the sound test worked. I
was unable to "test video settings" during install with much success, the
test resulted in destroying the lovely video display of the install GUI. I
knew right off that it wasn't picking up the right settings by default, but
I do not know what the parameters are. I tried running an install without
testing the video, hoping that maybe it would use whatever the install
program was using.
Now when I boot it I get the standard cryptic CLI. When I try to run Gnome
or KDE as supplied by the install, the error message states that the
Xserver was unable to in itialize the graphics adapter.
I think if I could find out what specific set of those cryptic numbers,
offered in the install, that it needs, I could re-install and select those,
but I don't even understand well enough to remember what those numbers
are. This is like learning Greek to me, but i've learned latin so I keep
trying.
Upon trying to do a search on my components I was unable to turn up the
information in the usual manner, only an article regarding that it was
benchtested and passed with respect in a linux environment. There was a
24kfile that I grabbed, set6x86-1.4.tar.gz I recognize that it is a tarball
but know little more about it and the article was not clear enough to me.
If this machine isn't old enough, perhaps anyone with advice can mail me
privately, and thankyou for your time.
