XF86Setup does _not_ use the "best possible screen resolution".
If you read the documentation, you will find that XF86Setup
arrives in standard VGA.

If you like this resolution, select "generic VGA compatible"
for the card and "stardard VGA" for the monitor. Simple
enough for you?

You should be able to get this from MSD or some other DOS program.

XF86Setup gives you several "standard" options to choose from.
One (or more) of these will work.
