Hi Pippi,
A good place to start is http://www.xfree.org and read the FAQ
The Cyrix video is supported by the SVGA server, but not very
well supported. You can use xf86config from the console to
configure your X setup in text mode. It is a fill in the blanks
type set up program. I would suggest starting Linux in level 3,
the command line mode until you get the GUI working properly.
XF86Setup is a GUI type setup program that may also work
for you. If you get a screen that is too garbled to use, ctrl-alt-
backspace should kill the X server and get you back to the
command line.
I run RedHat 6.1 on this Cyrix Media GX 133 and I was able to
get X to work with the onboard video, but only in 640x480
resolution. I wasn't happy with that and my solution was to
disable the onboard video and add an ATI Xpert98 PCI video
card which is well supported by the Mach64 server. There are
other ATI cards for as little as $20 US that should work well.
Maybe you even have one laying around in your spare parts
bin. There are other video chipsets that are well supported too
and the Xfree site can tell you what works best.
As for the sound, mine is SB16 compatible and that's what I
call it when asked by software.
