The partitioning sage with that asocial Win$ on the HD together with
DOS and Linux partitions got an occasional (and perhaps not so
preliminary) solution - tweaked the win98 config.sys and autoexec.bat
which make it go immediatly into the "real DOS" (FAT16) partition after
loading the screen and keyboard drivers. It only cries at the end of
booting that it 'could not find WIN'; the better so, it does work
normally with and in the all DR-DOS (16bit) environment of that
partition. Even loads most of the DOS drivers etc. high, and installs
an alien/"bastard" resizeable ramdisk. _And_ it would still load a full
winno$ if need be (rather rarely in fat). Hitherto all the DOS utils
work flawlessly, even not so trivial things like the packet driver (over
the first, built-in commport) and the Lynx (both the 286 and 386+
mutants).

It needs the ATX-shutdown from DOS though - thanks Bjorn, that little
thingy from Munich ("atxoff.com", a whole 40 b) works fine ! And me who
was joking about those ATX circuits which wouldn't really shut off,
hehehe. (Who's laughing there behind the screens ?!? This is a laptop
and its "power" button only sets it asleep, in order to efficiently
empty the battery. !Not funny.)
