Do you have any evidence for this? I boot Linux every
day via loadlin on a system with emm386 and himem.sys
loaded. I have never had the slightest problem in over
two years.

I have checked the loadlin manual and the only problems
mentioned are:
- old/strange EMM managers
- using the NOVCPI parameter for EMM386
- IBM clones which are not 100% compatible

So, as long as you don't use NOVCPI, you should be fine.
Any of you guys using NOVCPI?

Yes, this one is a real problem. However, it is easily
avoided by adding this line as the first line of linux.bat:
------------
smartdrv /c
------------
This clears the cache before executing loadlin.exe.

I don't think you need to worry about this. Loadlin should
cope with any of the common DOS drivers.
