(... well, this is the laptop-HD saga, contd.)

I did precisely as Ben Jemmet proposed -

> ... to boot with a DOS boot floppy,
> find the partiton (C: I guess), and SYS it or FORMAT /S it. Just a normal
> DOS setup might work, but it might get confused by Windows.

Promptly. Though the partition with the "real" DOS is D: in this case
(in Linux, it then shows indeed as /hda5). I had the faint illusion
that chosing to partition the HD this way would just avoid the Win$-
grab-all.

A key to the problem might be what Ben said,
> ... I have OpenDOS on my second hard drive.

Which means, that this there is another "primary" partition, right ?

Thus, to repeat one reflection: Would it make sense to create a second
*primary* partition on the first (and only) HD, and to put DOS (and
maybe even the Linux) there ?

And how is one to creat a second (or more?) "primary" partitions on
one HD ?

The ordinare (DOS-)fdisk would not allow for that, IIRR, it would only
allow for one primary and one extended partition (with "logical"
drives on the latter).

BTW, I'm still unable to arrive at the dan CMOS/BIOS setting of this
Toshiba laptop.
I immediately tried Randy Godenberg's hint (of yesterday here on the
list) to use DEBUG - that just resulted in a seemingly re-booting
'puter being solidly hung then. (Luckily, even this Tosh-beast has the
good ol' reset button.)
