I think somewhere in this thread, network access got thrown into it. If I
added to that confusion, I apologize!

I certainly don't want to get involved in an editor holy-war.* I don't
_like_ vi, but I _like knowing I can use it_ if I have to where appropriate.
I was only referring to the advantages of knowing a near-universal baseline
editor when administering Linux/Unix systems.** MY OPINION (for what it's
worth) is that vi can be a "good thing" to know -- and that's _all_. vi has
saved my bacon on many occasions.

Hey, I'm glad to see more Linux activism on this list, and if someone wants
to fire up StarOffice to do a quick edit on /etc/fstab, GO FOR IT! At least
you CAN edit the config files with an editor, right?

(NOT using vi to edit this)

I did find a couple of chuckles doing a search on 'vi' in Linux Journal that
some might find amusing:

* See: http://www.tarunz.org/~vassilii/srom/ -- This guy feels a LOT more
strongly about it than I do! Utterly unscientific research at it's best. :)
** See: "The vi editor is always there, but I checked anyway, and sure
enough, Mac OS X has vi installed" --
