KDE is fairly, but not completely uniform, but all of them had a 'control center' app on the list that popped up when you clicked on the lower corner where windoz puts the 'start' box. This is a convention most pc users are familiar with, the 'X' in the upper right to close an app, and the 'start in the lower left to open up a menu of other apps.
But in any case, I couldnt access the printer, nor mount either the dos or the corel drives (hda, hdc). nor umount the cdrom. > Either your menu is mis-behaving or you do not understand > how the menu operates. This certainly is *not* a reason to > reinstall the operating system. It was misbehaving. Suse has a thing called 'YAST' which opens a window and a fairly large selection of functions with a familiar scrollbar system. When I selected the printer, it took off and cranked the scsi for 15 minutes. which was far longer than I would have thought it would take to find the printer and see if the driver matched. the next boot hung at the message a lot of Linux users know: LI I did something windoz users know all to well: re-installed. Off hand, I dont think the first install went right. I could not get Netscape communicator running on it; it would close as soon as I tried to download mail, even though kmail had no problems. The game cd that I tried to install ran so slow it was useless, and installing that seemed to push the kernel over the edge. But I may have some hardware problems. I only got the scsi drive cause win 98 had crashed a few times on it. Course nobody here would say that windoz crashing proves anything is wrong with the hardware. And I did put DRDOS-7 on it, even as a FAT 32, and it seemed to run all right for a few weeks before I found a Linux distro that would recognize the scsi card. But, none of the downloaded drivers for debian, Redhat, Mandrake, BSD, or Corel would work, mostly cause they didnt have exactly the right release numbers. All of those except for RH 5.2 were for earlier releases. but the 5.2 did not work either. but then 5.2 sux so bad I didnt care.
