It starts with the ramdisk, but I expect most people
who use BasicLinux long-term will put it on HD sooner
or later.

Switch to another browser, switch to another distro,
whatever.

Meaning? If MS does it, it must be OK?

You miss my point again. I'm not complaining about how
GIFs are used on websites. I'm saying that displaying
GIFs (in Links) has a downside. Personally, I prefer
using Links without the GIF option.

Funny thing about that. I tried to make BasicLinux
"look good". I spent a lot of time trimming vgalib,
fiddling with the orb source code, hunting for a small
good-quality vga game (minesweeper) and logo (Linux
Inside). More than 100 hours doing all that stuff
(including all the dead ends). And, ya know, nobody
cares. Not one word about orb. Not one word about
minesweeper. Not one word about Linux Inside.

So to hell with "looking good". The pressure is on to
squeeze everything necessary into a 4mb ramdisk. So
bye bye orb. Bye bye minesweeper. Bye bye GIFs.

Maybe I have enough work doing one version.

Most Linux newbies want point-and-click eye-candy that
does everything for them automatically.

Why would I do that? tomsrtbt is the best. I recommend it.
BL2 will not be a rescue floppy (although it will include
some utilities that might be useful in a rescue situation).
BL2 will not be a newbie distro (although it will have some
newbie-friendly features). Rather I see BL2 as:
(1) a small, expandable distro for 486DX and early Pentiums
(2) a simple, fundamental Linux for people who really want
' to get to grips with how it works
(3) a stepping stone to Slackware 7.1

Cheers,
Steven
