I wish I had a good answer, so am contemplating having students do comparisons
of several as a class project.
Perhaps some of you have some ideas.

The ones I'm currently thinking of throwing into the mix for evaluation are:
Opera Dragonfly
Firefox/Firebug
Mozilla/SeaMonkey
HTMLKit
oXygen
notepad++
Aptana Studio
Nvu
TextPad
Eclipse
Inkscape (has XML mode)

Others?? What else is anyone using

Among the features that I'm interested evaluating:
Cost (free is best)
ease of learning (smaller environments are better / and moreso for student)
svg preview
html preview
tag completion
syntax highlighting
javascript syntax awareness
javascript debugging
html / svg DOM communication
compound document support (including object, embed and foreignObject)
support for both xhtml and html/quirk-y
inspection of dynamic DOM
multiple browser simulation
wysiwyg drawing pad
web based

Are there other features that author/developers consider to be valuable?

cheers
David

Subject: [svg-developers] Hey you all. Just

Hey you all. I just joined the group today.
I'm getting started with SVG and I've gotta figure manny things out.
I'm working on a project to bind SVG ANIMATION to a database and I'm a
new-be to all of this. My programming/scripting experience is very small.
Presently, I'm going through SVG Unleashed and I'm playing with the
source code that comes with it. So basically editing .svg files.
I'm TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHICH ENVIRONMENT TO DO SOME EDITING IN TO
GET SOME HANDS ON EXPERIENCE. I'm wondering if Firebug is a suitable
  environment for this or not...?
  Any suggestions?
  Cheers,
  Tim.
