All our saying is totally correct, its true that a template system help designer who dont want to use low level language in html (Personally i think that there is no need to separete, or introduce a new layer in the view),but I have not heard you guys talk about performance, I think the most important thing is to think if the performance will slow down by using X template system, you know the symfony + smarty is less efficient than symfony alone. So do you wanna take that risk ? Why? the most common task for using template is the helpers you find it, like "for cycle" replace of the "echo", thats not enough for create a new layer in an aplicattion. Think about it, deeply and slowly and you will notice that is not a MUST EXIST.
