You can pick up T-Mobile prepaid sim cards - already activated - on eBay really 
cheap.  You have to be careful about the expiration date.  For example I just 
got one that had 125 minutes for only $7 BUT it was only good for 20 days 
(usually they are good for 2 months).  It had a CA phone number which doesn't 
matter if you are calling cell to cell. You can add minutes, however, but it 
cost $10 for 30 minutes.  You are cheaper off buying the already activated 
cards IF you don't care that the phone number will change.

But if you don't have a phone to put it in you would have to buy one - I have 
bought cheap Nokia 3595s off eBay also - you can unlock for free - then use 
with a T-Mo card.  This is an ideal way to have a cellphone when you only need 
it once in awhile.  I also bought a prepaid off eBay that was good for a year - 
225 minutes - for only $30!  DonnaB
