Thanks Donna. I'm cell-phone lingo impaired. Does unlocking mean clearing
out the prior phone number and network? Matthew said with activated pre-
paid sim cards on ebay, you'd have to change your number each time. I'm
not sure I like that idea. I also don't want to end up with an area code
out of our area. I want calls from our home to the cell phone to be
local. We can afford our own phone and buying cards ourselves. I don't
think we're that desperate. However, I am CHEAP in general so . . . maybe.

I was under the impression that T-Mobile's prepaids are single rate
phones, - so no roaming charges.

Matthew, my daughter will not be using the new phone we get. She'll be
using the Verizon phone we already have in Lawrence, Kansas. I don't think
she'll have a problem with coverage.

<<<I also bought a prepaid off eBay that was good for a year - 225 minutes -
 for only $30!>>>

What kind of phone/network would you recommend looking for? And Donna,
when looking on ebay for sim cards and prepaid phones with minutes, what
search words would you recommend?

Keep the advice coming. I love it!

Thanks so much,
Mary

<What are your recommendations and why?>
You can pick up T-Mobile prepaid sim cards - already activated - on eBay
really cheap. You have to be careful about the expiration date. For
example I just got one that had 125 minutes for only $7 BUT it was only
good for 20 days (usually they are good for 2 months). It had a CA phone
number which doesn't matter if you are calling cell to cell. You can add
minutes, however, but it cost $10 for 30 minutes. You are cheaper off
buying the already activated cards IF you don't care that the phone number
will change.

But if you don't have a phone to put it in you would have to buy one - I
have bought cheap Nokia 3595s off eBay also - you can unlock for free -
then use with a T-Mo card. This is an ideal way to have a cellphone when
you only need it once in awhile. I also bought a prepaid off eBay that was
good for a year - 225 minutes - for only $30! DonnaB
