We bought a prepaid sim to have as a back up and the baby sitter when
they're with the kids (since we don't have a landline at the house. I was
able to get approximately $90 worth of airtime for $25 (after shipping,
watch the shipping some will try charging you $10 for shipping when all it
costs to mail the sim card is maybe $0.35).

I didn't say you have to change your number everytime but if you go the eBay
route to get a new sim then yes your number would change. It's a good way to
get started after that hit Wal-mart they sell the $25 refill cards for
$24.11 or something. Not a big difference but most places charge you $25.

T-Mobile Prepaid are single rate meaning there is no roaming but they don't
allow roaming off their network so you can incur charges outside the normal.
However the larger the refill card you buy the better your rate. For example
on $25 you only get 130mins (150 when you reach gold status) but when you
spend $100 you get 1000 minutes. On the $100 card the minutes are also good
for one year! For a low usage caller like yourself that might be perfect
$100 and you're done for the entire year! Then as long as you keep adding $
before it expires you keep whatever you have not used forever.
