Matthew: You are partially correct; Tracfone is actually a MVNO for Verizon Wireless not Sprint PCS.
They buy minutes wholesale from Verizon and resell them at what ever rate they desire. Also, whereas Virgin is half owned by Sprint, Tracfone is it's own company (not owned by the underlying carrier. In this respect, Virgin is more like Boost Mobile (owned by Nextel) than Tracfone. For what it's worth, I wish T-Mobile would actually embrace the MVNO model like their parent company in Germany.
